What is Tae Kwon Do?

Tae Kwon Do means “Foot, Fist, Art”. It is a Korean form of unarmed self-defense.
Tae Kwon Do offers both extraordinary physical as well as emotional benefits, through exercise, training, strengthening and flexibility. The ultimate goal is to achieve harmony with nature and one's self.

There are many different styles of Tae Kwon Do, however, with the introduction of the Palgwe Patterns followed by the Taeguk Patterns, most of the Kwans today resemble each other. Even philosophies amongst the different Kwans have become similar.

OUR STYLE OF TAE KWON DO IS BASED IN JI DO KWON, HOWEVER, GRANDMASTER CHUNG NOW ALSO HOLDS A 7TH DAN RANK FROM CHUNG DO KWAN.  THIS MAKES OUR DOJAHNG UNIQUE AS WE ARE AFFILIATED WITH TWO RECOGNIZED KWANS.

No matter your age or skill level, we have a program for you. With specialized programs for kids and teens, Bruce Chung's is the place to be for after-school activities. We have programs for adults and experienced athletes as well.

Tae Kwon Do became a full Olympic medal sport in 2000. It incorporates sophisticated and exacting moves such as spinning and jumping kicks and punching and blocking techniques while emphasizing flexibility, endurance, speed, strength and concentration skills.

Tae Kwon Do is founded on five tenets that guide both students and teachers:

Courtesy ( Ye Ui ) To be polite and show consideration of others—courtesy enlightens the average man and helps bring about harmony within society.

Integrity ( Yom Chi ) Integrity is the guideline for how you should interact with others—to be honest and good, to earn respect and trust.

Perseverance ( In Nae ) One's internal drive that allows you to face rather than avoid challenges. On the road to achieve any goal, one must overcome obstacles before reaching success.

Self-Control ( Guk Ki ) To have discipline over your body (actions) and your mind (thoughts and reactions).

Indomitable Spirit ( Baekjool Boolgool ) Tae Kwon Do teaches courage in the face of adversity and to succeed without breaking another's spirit.
